It seems like the joyous carousel that is Ms. Jergy’s career ride, will continue to spin until I’m eating nothing but soft foods again and they put me back in diapers. Honestly I was prepared for that. Really I was. But it really does surprise me how often these things pop up. Without getting into too many details, she was just ‘offered’ a new position by a friend and former colleague that would require her to commute to Hershey, PA. I should mention a couple of things. First, she has only been in her current job since October. Second, this job would be a pretty decent pay raise (decent enough to continue the discussion). So tomorrow, the discussion will continue. She’s meeting with her friend over breakfast to see what all of these will entail. And then the real talk will begin.

I guess I should also mention that we currently live about 90 minutes south of Hershey. And I should also mention that I already commute 45-60 minutes southwest for my job. Some would think this is a wonderful situation to be in. But I am generally conflicted. One of the reasons Ms. Jergy hops from job to job is that she become bored in what she is doing and is constantly looking for the next great challenge. I, on the other hand, am about as adventurous as….well, as……as some kind of non-adventurous type guy. Honestly that’s not completely fair. Its just I really do enjoy what I do and am happy doing it. My wife is not. I’ve had no problem supporting any career change she has wanted to make in the past but it’s always allowed me to remain where I am happy. Now I’m not so sure that’s going to happen. And its a bit frightening.

Well I’ve already dropped the ball on my Fun Friday Moment. Damn. Oh well, hope to have something new up this week that isn’t Wire related, but until then….

“They’re dead where it doesn’t count.” — Fletcher

Well, I get the sense this is the end of the beginning. From here on out, it will be ‘on’ as they say on the street.

Coming Attractions

I’m almost at the point of meltdown. This is not a bad thing. This explosion is from an extreme buildup of joy and excitement. You see, after more than five years of living in our house we are finally doing something about our basement. I love my house. Its not too big, has a nice size yard and is on a dead end street. The only real problem was the unfinished basement. The space upstairs for entertaining has always been a bit inadequate. We knew this from the beginning and had talked about finished the basement every since we moved in. Now with a near four-year-old needing space to play (and some help from family), the dream is becoming a reality. We are now two weeks into the basement project and it is going much faster than anticipated. A good deal of it has been framed out and is coming together quite nicely. But the most exciting part is that I finally get to enter the realm of HIGH-DEFINITION! I’ve been researching TVs for over 5 years now, knowing that one day I’d be able to make a purchase. And after much worrying, flip-flopping and the like it has come down to two screens.

Still learning

I’m still relatively new to using a real blog app to post my thought so give me a little bit of time to get acclimated. I just figured out how to add the ‘click here to read the rest of the entry’ link. So I will use this anytime I post about something that has the potential of ruining anyone’s good time. If there is one thing I hate its someone ruining a surprise. So I’ve added this link into all of my review of The Wire in case anyone hasn’t seen the episode yet.

As I drove into work this morning I was thinking about what to blog about today. So I started running through my head what I had done the past couple of days. It wasn’t terribly exciting. I watched some Playoff football. I took my daughter to her friend’s birthday party. Went to work. Played some games. Watched The Wire. And that was pretty much it. Then my cousin sent me this youtube video that some actors did in support of the WGA. Its kinda funny. But then I got to thinking. I don’t really miss TV all that much. Now, I’m haven’t gone to the extreme to say I haven’t watched ANY TV. I mean my last couple of post have been nothing but reviews for one of my great obsessions. I’ll watch the occasional Family Guy rerun or episode of Ghost Hunters. But honestly all of the network shows I’ve learned that I can live without. I wonder how many other people have come to the show conclusion and I wonder if the TV execs are thinking the same thing and pooping their pants because of it.

The easy answer is, obviously not. Because if they did then the strike would be over. But when it does end, I’m not sure I’ll jump back on the TV watching bandwagon. I’ve already told myself that I was going to cancel HBO once The Wire ends. There is nothing else on the channel that interests me anymore. Then then sparks the question as to how many things I would miss at all if they went away. Boy I didn’t expect this to be that deep a post. I’ll come back later when I have something funnier to talk about.

I promise this will be more than a Wire review blog. But right now it is the only thing dominating my thoughts. Again I remind anyone remotely interested who had NOT been following the show to stay away! This show works best if you watch from the beginning and steer clear of spoilers!

Some serious sh*t went down this week.

Oh BTW, if you haven’t seen this week’s episode and do not wish to know what happens, kindly go elsewhere.

When it was suggested by a friend to start this blog, he had suggested that it be related somehow to my love of good tv and movies. So I’ll start the ball rolling with what I hope to be a weekly post for the next 10 weeks as I count down what is, for my money, the finest drama in the history of American television, The Wire.

Those that know me, understand that I gush over the Wire like no other show I’ve ever seen. It is television that hasn’t been seen before and unfortunately probably won’t be seen again. HBO has made its share of frustrating moves when it comes to its programming (ending Deadwood too early dammit!) but the fact that it has allowed the Wire to endure as long as it has gives me hope that perhaps one day tv like this will be the norm instead of the exception.

Ok, for those that haven’t seen the show before.

1) Get to your favorite movie rental store or website.

2) Rent Season 1 of The Wire

3) Watch

4) Pay Attention!

5) Repeat with Season 2, 3, etc… until you’ve caught up

Ok I will return later today with review of Episode 1!
