Those that know me know that Halloween is my most favoritest time of the year. I love all things horror especially at that time. So it is with great glee that I point you all to this:

Brew of the Dead!

It about beer and zombies. Actually its about much more, but if I don’t have you at beer and zombies then I can’t help. It is written by a dear friend and directed by a dear friend and relative. I urge you, no DEMAND you make it to the big city (New York to be exact) and see BREW OF THE DEAD any weekend during the month of October.

It’s Brains! HOORAY BRAINS!

Electric Brains

I haven’t been the most motivated blogger recently. Things are happening I just don’t find them interesting enough to type. So maybe if I talk a little bit about them, I can make one interesting post.

I try and stay clear of any political topics because basically I don’t find I’m qualified to blog about it. But this upcoming election has me ready to pull my hair out. I can just feel the collective intelligence of America slipping away. There are honestly too many examples to list here. But needless to say, I’m more depressed than I was 8 years ago. Hopefully I won’t be come November.

OK, sticking with politics we have the Galactic Empire vs. The Rebellion. Much sooner than expected, my daughter has now watched the entire Original Trilogy with me. And she loved it. We’ve actually watched then each several times. I was also able to pull down all of my old Star Wars toys and bestow them to her. Forget first step or first word, this has been my proudest moment as a dad. (especially when she hums the Imperial March)

Right now there are two shows that are holding my attention. The first I feel like I should have my nerd card taken away from me because I waited too long to start watching it. But right now my wife and I are about 18 episodes into the first season of Heroes. Its amazing. Can’t wait to get caught up in time for the new season next week. And a guiltier pleasure has been watching Supernatural. Its a fun show where two brothers battle monsters, demons and spirits. Fun show.

And I should be receiving my copy of Rock Band 2 today! I cannot freakin wait.

Damn, yesterday was like the saddest day since Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes passing. First Don LaFontain, and then the great Jerry Reed.

from the LA Times:

Jerry Reed, whose roles in three “Smokey and the Bandit” Southern comedy films opposite Burt Reynolds often overshadowed his gifts as a prolific country singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist, died Monday at his home outside Nashville of complications from emphysema. He was 71.

And I love her

I wish she were running for President instead of VP.

from Deadspin:
The year was 1988. The Redskins beat the Broncos 42-10 in the Super Bowl. The film Gorillas in the Mist teaches us how to love once again. George H.W. Bush chooses Dan Quayle as his Vice Presidential running mate. And at KTUU-TV in Anchorage, Alaska, a plucky 24-year-old sports broadcaster named Sarah Heath is giving Knicks highlights and making snide remarks about Tommy Lasorda. Do not be frightened by her large hair: Everyone was wearing it like that then. Even the men.

Who would have thought that the young lass would grow up to run the great state of Alaska, and then be asked to the Big Dance by John McCain? Certainly not the news anchor guy shown in this clip, who appears to be a weird amalgam of Ron Burgundy and Carl Monday. Just think: If McCain wins, we will have the only Vice President who has once given Iditarod highlights.

This news was enough to break my silence. We’ll miss you Don.

LOS ANGELES — Don LaFontaine, the man behind the chilling voice in various movie trailers and commercials, died Monday, his agent said. He was 68.

LaFontaine died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles of complications from a collapsed lung, ETOnline reported. The official cause of death, however, was not immediately released.

LaFontaine’s vocal talents have appeared in over 5,000 movie trailers and nearly 350,000 commercials. He is most famous for the introductory line, “In a world…”

LaFontaine most recently appeared in a Geico Insurance commercial where he was referred to as “that announcer guy.”

He is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nita Whitaker, and three children Christine, Skye and Elyse.
